Re-Release – The Midwest Series #1: Bully & Exit

Bully & Exit, Book 1 in The Midwest Series, has been re-released!

Five years ago, when I began writing Bully & Exit, I had no intention of it becoming a series. But then Lowell demanded his story be told. And well, there’s no arguing with Lowell.

The fourth book in the series, Advance & Retreat will be out on July 14th. As I created new covers and polished Push & Pull and Touch & Go, I realized Bully & Exit needed a little more work. It was a good story but the end had always felt a little abrupt and the characters really needed that additional time on page together so it felt like a solid HEA.

I’ve added an additional 18k words of content and it’s had a fresh edit. I have always loved Nathan and Caleb’s story but I love it even more now.

If you read Bully & Exit before, I hope you enjoy the new content. If you haven’t, now is the perfect time to start!

It’s free through July 4th, when it will go up to its regular price of $3.99.

Blurb:

It’s time to leave college and the closet behind.

Nathan Rhodes has put hockey first for most of his life, but as graduation looms, he has a different goal in mind. He needs to come out and reclaim his first love. If only Caleb will believe him…

Theater geek Caleb Stockwell gave up on love when his boyfriend chose the closet over being with an openly bisexual guy. Now, he hides his heartbreak behind a string of casual hookups. He loves the drama on stage, but he’s done with the drama of Nathan Rhodes. For good.

Nathan is determined to right the wrongs of four years ago, but the clock is ticking.

One month until he and Caleb go their separate ways. One month to take a final shot at winning Caleb’s heart back.

Win or lose, everything is on the line.

Here’s a little teaser from Touch & Go:

“Then what’s stopping you?” Micah rubbed a little, teasing him with a promise of how good it could be if he said yes.

“My career, mostly,” Justin muttered.

“Hey,” Micah softened his tone. “I get it. I really do. I have everything to lose. I’m going to be working as hard as anyone to be sure no one finds out about what we’re doing, okay?”

“I know. But I’ve got a shitty poker face, Micah. What if I give something away? What if our involvement clouds my objectivity and I can’t give you the best care?”

“I’m not saying it’s going to be easy,” Micah admitted. “But are you telling me you don’t get lonely on the road? You aren’t horny and worked up and want an outlet?”

Justin remained silent.

“Look, if you don’t want me, I get it. But this seems like the perfect arrangement to me. We both know the risks, and we’d go into it with clear eyes.”

“You’re very persuasive, you know?” Justin said with a wry grin. “Ever thought about becoming a lawyer instead of a ballplayer?”

“Nope.” Micah grinned back. “So, does that mean I’ve won my argument?”

“You’re getting close.”

We’ve also set up a Prolific Works/Instafreebie group giveaway for the Derby that includes Inked and Moonlight among its ten FREE spooky reads!

To wrap up the Derby, we’ve organized a Facebook event. It’s a great opportunity to meet the authors and artists who participated. You can ask them questions and learn more about their work. We might even have a few extra treats for you, so be sure to join us!

(Click on the button below to go to the event)

I originally intended to write a solo short story for the Halloween Derby as well. Unfortunately, as they’re wont to do, the plot bunny turned rabid and sunk his teeth into me. This nice little short story quickly turned into a paranormal BDSM series.

Since I am trying to stay focused and stick to a much stricter schedule of when I write and release my books, I had to set it aside. It won’t be available until at least mid-2019.

Wake Early Release Day!

“Wake”–Book one in our two-part “Tidal” series–is now available for early download on Pride Publishing’s site! You’ll be able to read it a whole month before the general release date on May 30. Run and get your copy now!

Here’s a little teaser.

Carter sighed. “What about the lecture?”

“We can get the notes from someone else.” Riley grabbed Carter’s bag and waved at him to stand. “Get your ass up, Carter,” he muttered. “I’m not in the mood to carry you. You’re all tall and gangly and I’m not awake enough to deal with it.”

A couple of hours later, Riley’s bossy attitude had ceased to bother Carter. He was floating on a haze of muscle relaxant and sitting on the edge of his bed while his friend clattered around the bathroom.

“How do you feel?” Riley asked when he emerged, holding towels and a bottle of what appeared to be hand lotion.

“I don’t feel much,” Carter replied, smiling slowly while Riley scoffed. “No, really, I don’t feel anything. I’m kind of… I don’t know, wobbly.”

“Wobbly, huh?” Riley shook his head and grinned. “You’re so stoned, dude.” Putting everything down on the bed, Riley helped Carter take off his jacket, then knelt to pull off his sneakers.

Carter closed his eyes and the world spun slightly. “Oh. Yep.” He hummed and opened one eye to peer at his friend after a touch on the buttons of his shirt. “What’s going on?”

“The doc said some light massage would help with the muscle spasms,” Riley told him. He unbuttoned Carter’s shirt, then waited for him to lift his arms so he could ease it off Carter’s shoulders. “I can do that for you.”

Carter said nothing and let Riley help him out of his sweatpants. His drug-fuzzed brain was still processing the words ‘massage’ and ‘do that for you’ as Riley covered the mattress with a towel.

“Lie down, Car.”

Easing himself clumsily onto the bed, Carter lay with his head pillowed on his forearms. Two big, slick hands began moving over his neck and upper back, flooding his body with warmth, rubbing soothing circles into his skin, turning his already loosened muscles to mush.

“Jesus.” His voice was a low rumble in his chest and he struggled to open his eyes.

“Hold still, Car—I won’t hurt you, I promise.”

“I know,” Carter murmured. He lay boneless while Riley set his muscles ablaze. His body responded and he groaned, his cock growing hard.

Those capable hands moved steadily lower over Carter’s muscles, soothing knots that he hadn’t known were there. He grunted when Riley’s palms slid underneath the waistband of his boxer briefs. Talented fingers trailed fire across the base of his spine, making him shiver, and he sighed as lips pressed gently over his shoulders and neck. He’d nearly fallen asleep when a weight settled beside him at last, slipping one arm around his waist.

We hope you enjoy the book and if you can, please take a moment to rate and review it on Pride Publishing and Goodreads!

Payhip and 25% off Brigham Vaughn Titles

In the wake of AllRomance’s closing, I did some searching for additional sites to sell on. I’d heard about Payhip but hadn’t taken the time to explore it. After setting it up in January and giving it a test run for about a month, I have to say I’m quite pleased with it!

As an author, it’s simple to set up an account and sell my books. As a reader, it’s easy to purchase books. That alone would be a huge draw, but there are a couple of other features I really like.

  • Unlike most sites, Payhip only takes 5% per transaction. Plus there are no setup fees, monthly fees, or hosting fees. I get to keep 95% of the profits (compared to Amazon’s 70%)
  • I get paid immediately (instead of monthly, bimonthly, or quarterly like AllRomance did!) This means even if the company closes, I won’t risk losing royalties!
  • Accepts PayPal and credit cards
  • Offers ALL file formats (mobi, ePub, and PDF) and helps protect from piracy.
  • Gives me the opportunity to set my own prices AND offer coupon codes!

So far the only downside I can see is that it only offers digital content so I can’t sell my paperbacks. Honestly, that’s a totally worthwhile tradeoff for what I get instead. So please, stop by and check it out! (Click on the Payhip button below to go straight to my page there)

And if you want to get 25% off on ALL my titles, go to my Payhip page, click on the book you’re interested in, click a “Tweet or Like for Discount” button, and a dialog box will pop up with a pre-filled with a message and link. Once you tweet or like, you get a discount you can use immediately!

The best part is there are no restrictions on how many times you can get a discount!

Authors and readers, I’d love to hear back about what you think of Payhip so please, comment below with your feedback.

Happy Reading!

Wish I Was There Giveaway

I’m dealing with a serious case of GRL envy right now. I went in 2014 as a reader and had such a wonderful time meeting people and spending a weekend thinking about books.

I swore I’d go in 2015, but life didn’t cooperate. And 2016 hasn’t been any better.

I am, needless to say, hoping 2017 will be the year!

Honestly, this past year hasn’t gone the way I’ve planned at all. I am struggling to figure out how to get books finished and out faster. I think I actually did better with it when I had the full-time job (although my health really suffered).  I haven’t quite found that balance yet.

I’m earning enough as a writer to pay my bills, but not enough to move out of my parents’ house yet. *sighs*

It’s frustrating. I feel like I’m very close to things coming together but I am not quite sure what I need to do to make that happen.

But, many, many good things are happening so I’m trying to focus on that.

This past week, my co-writer and I submitted a novel to a publisher that we’ve been working on for three years! Technically, we’ve been working on two novels (with a combined word count of nearly 200k) for three years, but we submitted the first one and are very excited about it. We should hear back in about six weeks. Eep!

I am also working on an expansion of “Pain Management”. It was the short story that was part of the “Dr. Feelgood” anthology through Dreamspinner Press. The rights have reverted back to me so I am going to expand the 10k short into a novella. I hope to release that in November.

And I am 60k words into a novel that is coming together very well. It’s in the hands of one of my betas at the moment and I am hoping that have that out by January!

In non-writing related news, my annual Stratford, Ontario weekend vacation starts tomorrow. So I’ll be going to see “Macbeth” and “As You Like It”. I’ll spend the rest of the time wandering around a pretty little town, eating delicious food, and taking photos. It’s always a lovely, relaxing time.

My Kindle app is loaded with books and I am going to do my best to do a minimum of work. Ideally none, but I’m not always very good at that.

Taking the trip the same weekend as GRL wasn’t planned, but it did work nicely. I am glad I won’t be at home moping about not getting to hang out with my favorite authors and readers!

So I thought I’d do something to make life a little more fun for those of us who can’t be at GRL.

I’m offering a giveaway of one of my eBook titles to anyone who comments with what you would enjoy most about going to a writing convention! You can answer as either a reader or a writer (or both!).

BUT, there’s a little catch. If you see this posted on my blog, go to my FB fan group (Brigham’s Book Nerds) and comment there. If you see this in the Book Nerds group, comment on my blog.

And if you are an amazing fan who already has all of my eBooks, leave a comment anyway and we’ll figure out something else for your prize. 🙂

I will pick the winner tomorrow morning, so don’t wait to enter!
